Art II
These are the 4 starter drawings for the class. They where done to show previous knowledge about art. We had to draw a shoe with laces, our hand, a self portrait or someone else, and a 1 or 2 point perspective city/street. I wanted my city to be unique so it is being attacked by alien beings. It is a skewed one point perspective (to the left).
This was basically a recap from drawing class on how to properly shade 3-D shapes with pencil. This was not new information but it was good to practice again, especially with spheres and cones.
The practice sketches for the different basic perspective types. We did this in Drawing 1 so this was a refresher. I find 2pt to be the easiest but 3pt is probably the most interesting.
Lego 1pt Perspective Drawing + Reference image
For this we had to make an ambiguous lego structure and find its vanishing points. Our image only had one vanishing point near the middle of the image. Our structure mainly had squares and rectangles so it was a fairly simple design.
Two different lessons on making different textures with fine point pens. The value charts where just practice making different values with the different styles. The practice is most of the lessons from the videos.
Minotaur Planning
WIP-3
Minotaur in the Maze- Final
1) I used many different shading styles. The main two i used where stippling and hatching (some crosshatching). I used hatching on the areas with hair to better define that it was hair. I used crosshatching on the horns to make a rough texture. I used stippling around the wounds and to shade the area around the eyes and hands.
2)I used perspective in a way so it looks like you are seeing the minotaur from the side. Perspective can emphisise the size of the object you are looking at.
3)Texture was very important where I needed to show hair, I had to make sure it looked full. Texture was also important on the wounds to show that they where rough and deep.
4)Value was important to show depth and fine details in the art piece.
5)I feel like the craftsmanship is pretty good. The proportions of the humanoid figure are done well and the bull head is put appropriately on the frame. The lines are fairly clean and not sketchy.
6)If I did this project again. I would definately add more texture to the skin and make the background more pronounced and detailed.
7)The fable I did was the Minotaur in the maze from Greek Myth. I represented this story by putting vines behind the roaring minotaur to show it was in some kind of plant maze, and also basing the axe off of a greek war axe.
8)It is important to really know what you're doing when using pen due to the perminate nature and the way pen is a little harder to use than pencil. Understanding the concepts makes sure you know how to texture correctly.
9)This project helped me understand more how to more effectively make texture with pen and ink and will let my apply more drawing tools in the future.

This mini assignment was the start of the colored pencil unit. We had to use a photo of a ice cream or cupcake and draw it. We had to show appropriate use of shading and tones to get the right colors.
Getty Art Mini Project- The Great Red Dragon
I chose this painting because its one that I can name if you ask me what is one of my favorite paintings. For my recreation, I chose to use some figurines I had to use as the creature/woman in the painting. That was the easy part, finding the right figurines and posing them. The hard part was to get the lighting to highlight the woman and not the Large "Demon". I had to turn all the lights in my room off and hold a flashlight above where you can see while I took the photo. This painting isn't very complex so the only difficulty was getting the lighting just the way I wanted it to look.
